Starting a new business
Budgets and time are the key factors when opening or starting a new business. How much money are you willing to invest? This may be an easy question to answer or you might need to put pen to come up with a figure? Because most business need some capital to set up, remember there are different ways you can save money. By freelancing out elements of website design may cost you £50… can you afford that? Whilst setting up your business don’t forget free ways to spread the word!
- Social Media: a free way to get the business out there, whether it be creating an instagram account or a facebook page. They are both free examples of marketing, being able to share easily with friends and a wide audience is a great start.
- Download templates Design Bundles – from facebook headers, or instagram high covers there is so many templates to choose from. It’ll not only save you time, instead of faffing with photoshop or indesign you can easily download what you require. It’ll also allow you branding to be more aligned. You could also download and mockup your logo from Design Bundle to match the highlight covers on instagram.
- Start of small, this may sound silly but you are starting a new venture… so make sure you don’t plug hundreds of pounds into something which may not be as successful as you hoped. Therefore by starting of small I mean investing as little as possible to begin with. Enough to get your feet of the ground, so buying material/supplies creating a brand name and logo. Perhaps selling on etsy so creating your own shop, and you’ll want to be paid so make sure you get yourself a paypal account. Then you can built up from there, creating a website (URL domain name purchase) and starting a wordpress or wix free website? In time you can then go self hosted which will allow you to have a URL to match your company name (if available).
- Copyright – this may sound like a daft thing to remember but some logos/logo ideas you may have, could be copyrighted so make sure you create something bespoke so you cant get sued! Also in time if your items are successful look to get them copyrighted for your own protection.
Starting a new business has it’s challenges but also can be so rewarding. It’ll all come together in time with a lot of effort and persistence! I am sure this may have got you thinking about that ‘golden idea’ which you could take to Dragons Den or even a small hobby which you’d love to create into a business venture. Nothing is impossible.
I hope you enjoyed this read, and maybe one day we will be sharing business ideas!
Great ideas!
