Back in December I was invited to review the amazing winter menu at Las Iguanas, Bournemouth. I went along with the lovely Storm and what a great evening I had. Amazing food, good company and friendly staff.
It was a proper wintery evening but when we arrived we were greeted by some friendly staff & got taken to our table. We were allowed to choose anything we wanted from the main menu, up to the value of £50*.
We went straight to the cocktails… of course! Las Iguanas like most restaurants have a vast array of cocktails to choose from! Everyone needs to try a cocktail when they are out partaking in a restaurant review!
Myself and Storm both opted for the Malibu Swizzle… which was in fact included in their 2for1 cocktail deal (this is subject to change). Not only is the cocktail aesthetically pretty but it tastes AMAZING, a fruity rum twist!
Next we picked a starter, main and desert each… all within our £50.
The menu had a vast array of choices from vegetarian options to Mexican meat classics, which made the decision making really difficult!
Myself and Storm couldn’t decide on a starter (there was too much choice)… but in the end we both went for the Pato Taquito – Which is a Roast duck & caramelised onion rolled in a char-grilled flour tortilla, with spicy cranberry salsa. This was definitely my favourite dish of the evening, I love duck so this was perfect for the taste buds. It was cooked to perfection and I could not fault this starter.
Next up, was our main course. This time we did choose different options to get more of an idea of the menu. Storm went for the ad the ‘Blazing Bird’ which is a 24 hour marinated jerk-chicken, served with slaw and a choice of fries or salad. Storms view “The chicken itself was very moist and delicious, I would definitely recommend this meal apart from the sweet potato fries”.
I went for the Chicken Ensillada – a wrap filled with Spicy chicken, pepper, onion & cheese in a rolled tortilla with smoky chipotle sauce. It came on a bed of spring onion rice with refried beans & topped with cheese. The wrap was full of flavour and wasn’t too spicy, I could of done with a bit less beans (but I loved it neither the less). The food came out piping hot and we didn’t have to wait too long between each course, which was nice.
There were lots of yummy Las Iguanas desserts to choose from, but we didn’t on the sharing churros. The churros were cooked perfectly and were complimented by the Chocolate ganache and/or Dulce de leche both of which were complimentary when you order 6 churros! Trust me… these were delicious and the sauces were to die for!
Overall, we both had a lovely time at Las Iguanas from the moment we walked in, to the moment we left. The food was amazing, cocktail was perfect and the churros left an amazing feeling inside your mouth – HaHa!!
Don’t forget to go check out your nearest Las Iguanas! Thank you once again Las Iguanas for our gifted meal (*) I cannot wait to head back soon and try more of the lovely menu!!
